Porous Pavement: Climate Connections

Warmer temperatures increase the amount of water that is evaporated from the Earth's surface and heavier rainfall is predicted to occur in some areas. Scientists project that in Philadelphia it's very likely that the number of heavy downpours will increase due to climate change. In the Northeast there has been a 74% increase in the amount of precipitation falling in very heavy events from 1958 to 2011.

Explain that this poses a problem for Philadelphia, because when it rains, our sewers overflow into local streams and rivers and that increased heavy downpours will exacerbate this problem
